Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to visit the United States from September 8-10. The trip will feature significant engagements in Washington DC and Dallas, including interactions at the University of Texas.
This marks Gandhi's first visit to the US since assuming the role of opposition leader in June. Sam Pitorda, the Indian Overseas Congress chief, highlighted the high level of interest from the Indian diaspora, diplomats, academicians, businesspersons, and international media in Gandhi's visit. Pitorda emphasized the overwhelming number of requests for meetings and interactions with Gandhi from 32 countries.
Gandhi's itinerary includes a major community gathering in Dallas, discussions with students, academics, and technocrats, as well as a dinner with local leaders. In Washington DC, similar interactions are planned with think-tanks, the national press club, and various other groups. Gandhi's trip aims to foster connections and address the interest in states governed by the Congress party. His successful entry into the Lok Sabha began in 2004, and he has since represented the Rae Bareli constituency and previously contested from the Wayanad seat in Kerala.
