Record Surge in Antisemitic Incidents in Britain: CST Report

Britain witnessed a record number of antisemitic incidents, reaching almost 2,000 in the first six months of 2024, the Community Security Trust (CST) reported on Thursday. This marks the highest figure for the first half of any year.

CST, which advises Britain's 280,000 Jews on security, stated that over half of these incidents were linked to geopolitical tensions involving Israel, Gaza, and Hamas. Mark Gardner, CST's Chief Executive, highlighted the surge in antisemitism as a societal issue affecting schools, workplaces, public transport, and online platforms.

The first half of 2024 saw a significant rise in antisemitism, compared to the previous year, with January to July registering 1,978 incidents – more than double last year's figures. 2023 had already been the worst year for antisemitism in Britain due to hatred following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas.

In response to the alarming trend, the British government had increased the CST's funding by an additional 3 million pounds ($3.8 million) last year. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper stressed the need for continued efforts to combat antisemitism, ensuring that those spreading hate face stringent legal consequences.
