The findings have prompted calls for immediate charges against those involved, including security guards, as civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Mitchell's family demand justice.
The death of D'Vontaye Mitchell, a Black man pinned to the ground by security guards outside a Milwaukee hotel, has been ruled a homicide, according to an autopsy report.
Mitchell suffocated while being restrained on June 30, exacerbated by the effects of drugs in his system, findings from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office revealed on Friday.
The autopsy report confirmed that restraint asphyxia and the toxic effects of cocaine and methamphetamine were the immediate causes of Mitchell's death. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Mitchell's family are calling for immediate charges against those involved in the incident.
