Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday described the Supreme Court's ruling on internal quotas for Scheduled Castes and Tribes as 'historic', noting it removes a significant barrier to implementing internal reservations.
The Supreme Court affirmed that states have constitutional authority to create sub-classifications within Scheduled Castes to provide reservations, aimed at aiding the most socially and economically disadvantaged groups.
Posting on social media platform X, Siddaramaiah praised the decision and assured that the Congress party is dedicated to executing internal reservations as promised. He criticized the previous BJP government's hasty decision on the matter and called for thorough consultations in light of the new verdict.
