The Uttar Pradesh police constable recruitment exam, previously cancelled in February due to allegations of a paper leak, is rescheduled for August, the state government confirmed on Thursday.

The initial examination dates were February 17 and 18. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board announced that the re-exam to recruit 60,244 constables will take place on August 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31.

"The exam will be conducted in two shifts on each exam day, with around 5 lakh candidates in each shift," stated a press release issued by the board.

In a supportive move, the government will offer free bus travel within the state transport corporation for candidates. Additionally, on July 1, 2024, the government enacted the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Ordinance-2024, targeting cheating, paper leaks, and answer sheet tampering, with penalties including fines up to Rs 1 crore and life imprisonment.
