In a significant breakthrough, a 51-year-old murder accused and narcotics smuggler, Mohammad Umar, has been apprehended after evading law enforcement for 12 years, officials announced on Sunday.

Umar was arrested on July 16 for the alleged 2012 murder of his associate, Taslim, in Delhi's Sonia Vihar locality. In a macabre effort to conceal the crime, Umar disfigured Taslim's face with acid, authorities said.

Additional charges against Umar include seven other criminal cases, ranging from cheating to narcotics smuggling. He was arrested near Anand Vihar Bus Terminal in Delhi. A reward of Rs 50,000 had been offered for information leading to his capture.
