The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh legislative assembly, set to commence on Monday, promises to be eventful as the opposition Congress prepares to confront the ruling BJP over what it describes as a deteriorating law and order situation.

The Congress plans to 'gherao' the state assembly on July 24 in protest against the alleged rise in violence, particularly in Balodabazar last month. The session, consisting of five sittings, will conclude on July 26.

State Congress Chief Deepak Baij, addressing a press conference on Sunday, criticized the Vishnu Deo Sai government for failing to maintain law and order, citing four incidents of firing and the spread of inter-state gangs.

Baij highlighted 300 cases of rape, 80 gangrapes, and over 200 murders in seven months. He accused the BJP of failing to protect citizens and said the previous Congress government had managed law and order better. Additionally, he claimed the current government has neglected healthcare, with 11,000 diarrhoea cases and 22,000 malaria diagnoses in certain areas, leading to multiple deaths.

Baij alleged the government is denying these health crises instead of addressing them, asserting that the Congress will bring these issues to the assembly's attention.
