In Karnataka, the opposition BJP and JD(S) on Sunday accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of failing to deliver immediate relief to those affected by flooding and landslides, caused by heavy monsoon rains.

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka from BJP and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy from JD(S) toured the rain-hit areas, especially along the National Highway near Sakleshpur. Both leaders criticized the government's slow response, claiming it was too caught up in scandals to address urgent needs. Monsoon rains since June have been 22% above normal, leading to widespread flooding and landslides in coastal and malnad districts.

Calling for swift action, Ashoka emphasized the necessity of following the previous administration's relief measures and the establishment of care centers with adequate facilities. He further urged the government to match the Central disaster management funds and accused it of nearing bankruptcy. Kumaraswamy echoed similar sentiments and urged state ministers to inspect affected areas and build public confidence. He also criticized Deputy CM D K Shivakumar's comments questioning the utility of Kumaraswamy's visits. Kumaraswamy vowed to discuss the issue with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for possible scientific solutions.
