Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel lost their lives while patrolling the Harami Nallah creek area along the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat due to extreme weather conditions, the BSF reported on Saturday.

Assistant Commandant Vishwa Deo and Head Constable Dayal Ram, who were part of the patrol team, succumbed to heat stroke and dehydration on Friday, according to official sources. The current temperatures in the Rann of Kutch region are between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels soaring to 80-82 per cent.

The patrol team ran out of water and energy fluids in the harsh, humid conditions of the marshy area. Despite a rapid response with water supplies from the nearest base and medical evacuation to a health facility in Bhuj, both personnel could not be saved.

In a statement, the BSF spokesperson highlighted the arduous conditions of the patrol route and lauded the bravery and dedication of the fallen soldiers, noting that their commitment to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty will not be forgotten.

The Gujarat Frontier of the BSF is responsible for guarding an 826 km stretch of the India-Pakistan border from Barmer in Rajasthan to the Rann of Kutch, including the Sir Creek area.
