Father Arrested in Connection to Apalachee High School Shooting

Georgia state officials arrested Colin Gray, the father of 14-year-old suspected school shooter Colt Gray, on Thursday. This follows a tragic incident at Apalachee High School on Wednesday, where four people were killed and nine others wounded. Colin Gray faces multiple charges, including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, stated that these charges stem from Colin Gray knowingly allowing his son to possess a weapon. Colt Gray has been charged with four counts of felony murder and will be tried as an adult. Both father and son were previously questioned regarding an online threat in 2023 but were not arrested due to a lack of probable cause.

Investigators revealed that Colt Gray used a semiautomatic rifle in the attack, but it remains unclear how he obtained the weapon. The motivation behind the shooting is still under investigation. Colin Gray's arrest comes after a high-profile case in Michigan where parents were held accountable for their child's school shooting. Studies show that 75% of school shooters acquire their weapons at home.
