Police Arrests in UP: Muharram Processions Stir Communal Tensions

The Uttar Pradesh Police detained 15 individuals in connection with three cases involving unauthorized religious processions during Muharram. Those arrested were accused of brandishing weapons and disturbing communal harmony. FIRs were lodged, leading to multiple arrests, including individuals in Payagpur and Nanpara police station areas.

The Uttar Pradesh Police have taken firm action by arresting 15 individuals tied to three separate incidents related to unauthorized religious processions during Muharram. Accusations include the brandishing of sharp-edged weapons and disturbing communal peace, according to an official statement.

Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla stated that on Wednesday, Muharram day, a group carrying tazia was reportedly attacked while attempting to pass through a field in the Payagpur police station area. An FIR was lodged, leading to the arrest of 11 men on Friday.

A second FIR was filed Wednesday night in the Nanpara Police Station area against individuals attempting to traverse a prohibited area with a religious procession. This resulted in three arrests on Friday. Additionally, another FIR was lodged for openly brandishing sharp weapons, leading to the arrest of one individual, Abu Talib.
