West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filed an appeal on Friday before a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, challenging a single bench order that restrains her and three others from making defamatory or incorrect statements against Governor CV Ananda Bose.

The single bench had issued the interim order on Tuesday following a defamation suit filed by Bose. The suit comes in the wake of comments Banerjee made during a controversy over the oath-taking of two newly-elected TMC MLAs.

Besides Banerjee, the order also restrains newly elected MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Reyat Hossain Sarkar, and TMC leader Kunal Ghosh. The appeal will now be heard by a division bench. Meanwhile, a Raj Bhavan source accused Banerjee of ''splurging public money by engaging highly paid lawyers'' and stated that Bose will continue his battle against what he describes as her ''government's corruption''.
