The BJP on Friday targeted the TMC, accusing the West Bengal government of escalating atrocities against women under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's leadership. The party questioned whether Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would address these issues or remain silent due to coalition obligations.
This response followed the circulation of a video showing a woman in Howrah being beaten and having her hair cut off by several individuals. The BJP displayed the video at their headquarters, describing the act as reminiscent of a 'Talibani court' in Domjur, near the West Bengal state secretariat frequently visited by Banerjee.
The BJP's national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Mamata Banerjee government and the TMC of supporting these 'Talibani courts', which operate under Sharia law, and claimed such incidents are becoming routine. He called on Congress leaders to publicly condemn the violence against women in West Bengal and Telangana, where a similar incident was reported.
