Karnataka Government Tables Trio of Strategic Bills in Legislative Assembly

The Karnataka government has introduced three significant bills in the legislative assembly: The Karnataka Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024, The Karnataka Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, and The Karnataka Cine and Cultural Activists (Welfare) Bill. These bills aim to refine legislative qualifications, GST procedures, and support for cine and cultural activists.

On Friday, the Karnataka government tabled three pivotal bills in the legislative assembly, including the Karnataka Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024.

The Prevention of Disqualification Amendment Bill seeks to exempt certain offices related to the Chief Minister from disqualification, thereby allowing holders to be members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly or Council.

The Karnataka Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill aims to clarify input service distribution transactions and mandates the compulsory distribution of input tax credits. Additionally, it establishes penalties for unregistered machines used in manufacturing tobacco products and paan masala.

Lastly, the Karnataka Cine and Cultural Activists (Welfare) Bill proposes the creation of a welfare board and fund to support cine and cultural activists in the state, offering financial schemes for their social security and welfare.
