Shri Amit Ghosh, Additional Secretary (Social Justice and Empowerment), addressed a high-level policy dialogue on ‘Deciphering the Interlinkage of Climate Change, Hunger, and Poverty’ on July 17, 2024. This official side event of the High-Level Political Forum 2024 was organized by the India Water Foundation with support from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Japan Development Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet (GASP).

The event provided a comprehensive analysis of climate impacts on Goal 1 (No Poverty) and Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) and aimed to integrate climate action with poverty reduction and hunger alleviation. The dialogue presented a crucial opportunity for driving effective implementation for transformational change. It focused on identifying global lessons and practices that can inspire ways to accelerate climate action while reducing poverty and hunger.

In his address, Shri Ghosh acknowledged Dr. Arvind Kumar, President of the India Water Foundation, for his visionary leadership and tireless efforts in emphasizing global commitments to addressing these interconnected challenges. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), also expressed gratitude to Dr. Kumar and the India Water Foundation for convening this crucial dialogue and highlighting the close link between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Other distinguished speakers included Mr. Svante Helms, National Pathways Coordinator at the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, Dr. Katinka Weinberger, Chief of the Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation Section at UN ESCAP, Dr. Satya Tripathi, Secretary General of GASP, Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Director of the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, Mr. Katsuo Matsumoto, Director General at JICA, and Mr. Ruhiza Boroto, Senior Land and Water Officer at the FAO's Land and Water Division.
