The Calcutta High Court has restrained West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from making any defamatory statements against Governor CV Ananda Bose. This interim order, issued on Tuesday, also includes TMC MLAs Sayantika Banerjee, Reyat Hossain Sarkar, and TMC leader Kunal Ghosh.

Justice Krishna Rao declared that the matter will be revisited on August 14. Governor Bose had filed a defamation suit following comments made by Banerjee in an altercation over the oath-taking of two new MLAs. The governor sought an interim order to prevent further comments related to the incident at Raj Bhavan.

Justice Rao mandated that Banerjee and the others abstain from making defamatory remarks across all platforms till August 14, 2024. Both sides are required to submit their affidavits within the next few weeks. Banerjee's lawyer has indicated plans to challenge the ruling before a higher bench.
