Craig Wright, the Australian computer scientist who claimed authorship of the foundational Bitcoin white paper, is now the subject of a criminal investigation for alleged perjury in Britain. Wright's assertions, widely disputed and unsupported by evidence, led to legal battles across the globe.
The Crypto Open Patent Alliance, which includes members like Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's company Block, challenged Wright's claims in London's High Court. Judge James Mellor wrote that evidence overwhelmingly disproved Wright's claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, criticizing Wright for lying and fabricating documents extensively.
With a referral to the Crown Prosecution Service for potential criminal charges against Wright, his current whereabouts remain uncertain. The judge indicated Wright might be outside the UK, possibly in Southeast Asia or Siberia.
