Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has affirmed Odisha's firm stance against inter-state irrigation projects that pose a threat to the life and livelihood of its people. Majhi communicated this during a review meeting on the subject held on Monday.
The session delved into ongoing disputes between Odisha and neighboring states, including Chhattisgarh's blockage of the Mahanadi waters and Andhra Pradesh's Polavaram project, which threatens to inundate land in Malkangiri district. These conflicts have heightened tensions as Odisha seeks to safeguard its interests.
Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, Anu Garg, presented detailed data and statistics regarding these contentious projects. Majhi directed officials to vigorously oppose any initiatives undermining the state's welfare and environmental stability.
