The Union home ministry's cyber crime unit has issued a strong warning about fake e-notices claiming to be from government officials. Urging public vigilance, the ministry advises verifying the legitimacy of these emails and calling the mentioned department for confirmation.
According to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), many of these fraudulent emails mimic official communications, making it difficult to distinguish them from genuine notices. Users are urged to check if the emails originate from authentic government websites ending in 'gov.in' and to verify the information about named officials online.
Earlier this month, the Union finance ministry also alerted email users about fraudulent emails bearing names and logos of various government agencies. The ministry advised that any such emails should not be responded to and should be reported to the nearest police station or cyber police station. The I4C emphasizes that these emails, often bearing 'urgent notification' or 'court notification' titles, are targeted at individuals and government offices to falsely accuse them of cyber crimes.
