A single-judge bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has referred a lawyer's contentious comments during a bail hearing to the Chief Justice. Advocate P C Paliwal, representing appellants in a case, expressed his frustration over prolonged proceedings, describing them as a 'tamasha' or drama, observed for four hours.
His remarks were met with serious disapproval from Justice Anuradha Shukla, leading her to recommend a review by the Chief Justice. In her order, Justice Shukla emphasized the disgraceful nature of Paliwal's comments, viewing them as contemptuous towards the court's proceedings.
Paliwal continued his critique, addressing the broader issues of judicial vacancies and the increasing pendency of cases. He linked these challenges to his current client's situation, suggesting that inefficiencies were causing him and others undue harassment. The lawyer vowed to bring these issues to the attention of higher authorities, including Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, demanding a transfer of the case for fair consideration.
