The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has expressed growing impatience as the government delays addressing the critical issue of duplicate voter ID numbers. Despite a firm stance, the TMC calls for a debate in Parliament, underlined by their provision of voter ID discrepancies from various states.
In a recent session of the Rajya Sabha, TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy recommended amending Rule 267 to facilitate a short-term discussion via Rule 176. Although Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar found the proposal promising, no debate date has been set.
While the Election Commission attributes duplication to outdated systems, the TMC insists on accountability before the session concludes on April 4, considering further actions if their demands remain unmet. Meanwhile, the Election Commission commits to resolving the issue in three months.
