The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a case against two superintendents and one inspector of Customs previously stationed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport over charges of conspiracy and corruption.
According to a press release from the central investigating agency on Sunday, the CISF apprehended two individuals from different companies in March this year while they were exchanging foreign currency worth nearly Rs 3 lakh.
The release further alleged that the foreign currency was handed to a private person by the three accused officials, who had acquired it from international passengers in exchange for imposing reduced or waived customs duties. This operation was reportedly a regular practice.
The case was registered on June 28, and the CBI subsequently conducted searches in four locations (three in Hyderabad and one in Delhi), uncovering incriminating documents. The investigation is ongoing.
