A special court in Rohini has convicted Dinesh Singh, a resident of Mangolpuri, for power theft used for domestic purposes, according to a spokesperson from Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) on Tuesday.

Presiding over the case, Additional Sessions Judge Jitendra Singh determined that Dinesh Singh was guilty under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003. The quantum of sentence and civil liability remains to be decided.

Police investigations revealed that the accused was illegally extracting electricity by puncturing the Low Tension Aerial Bundled Cable. There was no official meter or legitimate connection at the site, and a load of 7.718 KW was found connected for domestic usage.

TPDDL's chief consumer litigation officer, Kiran Gupta, reported that since April this year, four other individuals have also been convicted for power theft in surrounding areas such as Prahladpur Bangar, Mangol Puri, Sultanpuri, and JJ Colony Shakurpur.

Gupta has urged all discom customers to adhere to regulations to ensure their power supply remains uninterrupted.
