The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has called for a robust and practical approach to address the persistent polio threat in Pakistan. In a meeting reported by ARY News, she urged the launch of targeted vaccination campaigns at all entry points in Punjab as part of an eradication strategy.

In a meeting focused on polio eradication, directives were given to monitor and register mobile and migrant populations within the province. The importance of compiling accurate data on missing children during these vaccination drives was also highlighted. The meeting saw attendance from prominent figures including Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir, alongside other key officials.

The meeting evaluated micro-plans to enhance the vaccination campaign's efficiency, with a commitment from CM Maryam Sharif to eliminate polio from Punjab. She emphasized the need for vigorous public involvement in the eradication efforts. ARY News reports also noted her directive to maintain a strict cold chain per standard operating procedures during the campaign.

This initiative gains added urgency as two new polio cases have been confirmed in Sindh, escalating the national toll to 39 this year. The National Institutes of Health confirmed cases in Balochistan, impacting young children and adding to the nationwide struggle against polio in Pakistan, according to health officials.
