Authorities at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport have reported a suspected monkeypox case. On Saturday, a traveler arriving on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Jeddah exhibited symptoms akin to monkeypox.
The individual has been transferred to a government isolation ward in Sindh for further evaluation and treatment. This development follows a recent report from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a fifth case of monkeypox has been confirmed in the province this week.
The latest case involves a 33-year-old resident of Peshawar, who returned to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia on September 7. The Khyber Teaching Hospital confirmed his infection, and he is now in isolation at his home in Lower Dir. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued an urgent alert about the unprecedented outbreak of monkeypox affecting multiple countries amid rising cases of the Mpox virus.
