A Pakistan court on Wednesday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case involving arms and liquor.
The case against Gandapur, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, began in October 2016 after police reportedly seized several weapons and alcohol from him.
Despite his plea for exemption on medical grounds, civil judge Shaista Khan Kundi ordered his arrest after he missed a court hearing, adjourning the case till Thursday. Previously, Gandapur was declared a proclaimed offender but had the status overturned due to his official duties as chief minister.
Political experts cite Gandapur's case as a stark example of Pakistan's flawed judicial system, where influential figures often manage to evade legal accountability.
