A 21-member delegation from the 64th course of India's National Defence College (NDC) concluded a five-day visit to Nepal on Thursday, September 5, 2024, per a press release by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. The delegation, including senior civil service and defence officials from India, Australia, Bhutan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Oman, and the USA, arrived in Nepal on September 1, 2024.

Led by Rear Admiral Sandeep S Sandhu, NM, Senior Directing Staff of the Indian Navy, the delegation met several high-ranking Nepali officials. These included Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, and Defence Minister Manbir Rai. Discussions with Lieutenant General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Officiating Chief of Army Staff of the Nepali Army, focused on bilateral military cooperation.

The visit emphasized the robust military relationship between India and Nepal, especially in defence cooperation. Talks addressed enhancing existing military engagements and exploring new collaborative opportunities. Recognized globally, the National Defence College provides advanced training to senior defence and civil service officers.

Foreign officers also attend the prestigious course, cementing educational and defence cooperation between India and Nepal. Many senior Nepali officers, including General Prabhu Ram Sharma, are NDC alumni. Four Nepali Army officers are currently enrolled. During their stay, the delegation visited the Nepali Army Headquarters in Kathmandu and the Western Division Headquarters for further defence cooperation discussions.

The National Defence College's legacy in training military and civilian leaders globally shapes international defence relationships. Its alumni often occupy key positions worldwide, reinforcing global defence networks.
