The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting, held on August 24-25, 2024, in Dubai, underscored the critical need to address various urgent issues in African Union (AU) member states. Participants highlighted the imperative of tackling climate change, enhancing healthcare, and improving educational systems.

In a Joint Communique issued at the end of the two-day summit, participants called for innovative domestic resources and creative solutions to address these challenges. The communique also emphasized strengthening disease prevention and bolstering healthcare infrastructures, while advocating for better access to quality education and improved governance through digital transformation and capacity building.

Crucial discussions also revolved around reinforcing Africa's peace initiatives via the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and supporting AU-led peace operations. Additionally, the Japanese foreign minister, Yoko Kamikawa, stressed the need for sustainable ecosystems for startups and supporting the participation of youth and women in economic transformation. Delegates from AU member states, Japan, and entities like the United Nations and World Bank were present, focusing on advancing AU Agenda 2063 and the Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development Goals.
