China was notably absent from the Voice of Global South Summit, an event attended by representatives from 123 countries. During a press conference after the summit, hosted virtually by India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that China was neither invited nor participated.

Addressing the media, Jaishankar emphasized that the summit aimed to find common positions among the participating nations, fostering a sense of unity. He clarified that the focus was not on specific deliverables but rather on exchanging ideas and themes that could influence global discourse.

The Global South Summit is an extension of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of inclusive development and global unity. The initiative, rooted in India's philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' seeks to unite Global South countries to share perspectives on varied issues. The first summit was held in January 2023, followed by another in November, both virtually.
