The Indian diaspora in the UK hosted a grand celebration in Slough, a town in Berkshire, England, on Thursday to mark India's 78th Independence Day. The event, organized by the Indian Diaspora in the UK (IDUK) group, drew numerous prominent figures from the Indian community, underscoring the robust cultural ties and patriotism among Indians in the UK.

The IDUK Group is committed to fostering a sense of community among Indians in the UK, promoting cultural heritage, and supporting initiatives that strengthen the ties between India and the UK. The event's highlight was a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Slough Mayor Balwinder Singh Dhillon. The Indian tricolour soared proudly as attendees paid tribute to the spirit of freedom and unity. Mayor Dhillon commended IDUK's efforts in uniting the community through such events.

Slough Council Leader Dexter Smith lauded the community's dedication, noting the impressive turnout at 7:30 AM on a working day. He emphasized the enduring bond between India and the UK, as well as the people-to-people connections. The event featured several cultural performances and welcomed esteemed guests like Ex-Army Officer Ashok Chauhan and Former Mayor Meva Maan, among others, who contributed to the celebration's success.

IDUK co-founders Hirdesh Gupta, Ajay Murudkar, and Alok Gupta expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment, as well as to the sponsors and the dedicated volunteer team. The celebration was not only a tribute to India's independence but also a testament to the unity and resilience of the Indian community in the UK. It served as a poignant reminder of shared values and the sacrifices made for freedom.
