In a significant turn of events, former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (retd) is experiencing dwindling support following his recent arrest by the Pakistan Army. The ex-general is set to undergo a court-martial. On Tuesday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan explicitly distanced his party from Hameed.

General Hameed served as ISI chief during Khan's tenure as Prime Minister and was reportedly instrumental in the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan. However, PTI lawyer Intezar Panjutha, after meeting Khan in Adiala jail, briefed the media on Hameed's arrest. Quoting Khan, Panjutha said that Khan considered the arrest an internal army affair, emphasizing that neither PTI nor Khan himself had political connections with Hameed.

In an unparalleled move, the Pakistan Army announced Hameed's arrest on Monday, the third general officer to face court-martial proceedings. The allegations stem from claims of misuse of position to extort money from a private housing society. The army cited a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan as the basis for the action against Hameed.
