Chinese authorities are contemplating imprisoning human rights lawyer Lu Siwei and arresting citizen journalist Zhang Zhan, as per VOA News reports. Activists view these measures as part of the Chinese government's wider effort to suppress dissenting voices.

Bob Fu, founder of ChinaAid, stated that Beijing aims to intimidate dissidents into submission. Lu's wife, Zhang Chunxiao, revealed that authorities have increased surveillance on Lu since his release, restricting his movements within Chengdu.

The constant monitoring includes a round-the-clock team tracking his every move, VOA noted. Despite his credentials and legitimate travel documents, Lu was detained abroad last year. Analysts believe his prosecution is likely, highlighting the risky environment for rights advocates under President Xi Jinping. Zhang Zhan, previously jailed for reporting on Wuhan's lockdown, faces potential re-arrest amid ongoing police scrutiny.
