Three workers were killed and three others injured after a storage tank containing methanol exploded at a factory in Maharashtra's Raigad district, police reported on Thursday.

A case of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' was registered regarding the blast, according to an official source. The incident took place at 11:15 a.m. at Sadhana Nitro Chem Limited in Dhatav MIDC, Roha town, approximately 110 km from Mumbai, Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge stated.

"The blast occurred in the storage tank of the chemical plant," he said. Three individuals from Uttar Pradesh who were at the plant for fabrication work died due to the explosion triggered by a spark during welding activities, according to another official. The victims were Basuki Yadav (45), Dineshkumar Kharbarram (25), and Sanjeevkumar Yadav (21).

Three additional workers sustained burns and were initially transported to the state-run hospital in Roha before being shifted to the National Burns Centre at Airoli in Navi Mumbai. Fire brigade and local police personnel quickly responded and extinguished the fire within half an hour. The bodies of the deceased were sent for autopsies, and the search and firefighting operations continued at the factory.

A First Information Report was filed against Mohan Lal, owner of M K Fabricator, and others under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 125 (B) (rash or negligent act endangering life or safety of others). No arrests have been made so far.
