India Expresses 'Deep Concern' Over Violence Targeting Minorities in Bangladesh

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed deep concern over the recent surge in violence targeting minorities in Bangladesh. The Indian government emphasized it is closely monitoring the situation and its implications for minority communities in the region.
MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted India's apprehension amid reports of attacks on Hindu temples, homes, and businesses, as well as targeted violence against women. The issue was also addressed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in a suo moto statement.
The Indian government has urged Bangladesh to exercise restraint and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of religious beliefs. Jaiswal reiterated Jaishankar's call for the prompt restoration of law and order. He noted that while some groups have taken initiatives to protect minorities, the situation remains a top concern until order is visibly restored.
Jaiswal also mentioned that many Indian students have returned from Bangladesh, with the High Commission assisting those who wish to come back. He remarked that the situation is still evolving, emphasizing the importance of the well-being of Bangladeshi citizens for both countries.
