The Himachal Pradesh government is set to transform its healthcare sector with a hefty Rs 1,570 crore investment, informed Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday. This ambitious financial injection will go towards acquiring cutting-edge medical equipment.
Annually, approximately 9.50 lakh residents leave the state for medical treatment, leading to a GDP loss of Rs 1,350 crore, highlighted Sukhu. Addressing this concern, the state government aims to bolster healthcare infrastructure to conserve both financial resources and patient time.
Key initiatives revealed include upgrading medical colleges with robotic surgery capabilities and equipping major hospitals with modern scanning technology. A significant project involves establishing a Rs 300 crore cancer care centre at Dr Radhakrishnan Govt Medical College, Hamirpur, featuring the state's first cyclotron. These efforts are expected to curb patient migration and promote medical tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
