The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi is set to improve its facilities with the introduction of a new Critical Care Block. This initiative, announced by the hospital's Director Dr. M Srinivas, is aimed at enhancing treatment for seriously ill patients.
The new block will add 200 beds to the hospital's capacity, helping to manage the rising number of patients arriving at the Emergency ward daily. Dr. Srinivas mentioned that this extension is crucial given that the current Emergency ward frequently faces a bed shortage due to high demand.
Alongside the Critical Care Block, AIIMS is working on establishing an Infectious Diseases Centre and strengthening its teleconsultation network initiated during the Covid pandemic. The hospital is also developing a One AIIMS Referral Policy to streamline patient referrals across AIIMS centers in India.
