Congress Critiques BJP's Naming of Veer Savarkar College

In a fiery exchange, Congress leader Naseer Hussain accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of glorifying individuals who wrote mercy petitions to the British. Hussain questioned the naming of a new college after Veer Savarkar, while freedom fighters' contributions seem overlooked.

On Thursday, he remarked that many people sacrificed for India's freedom, yet the BJP legitimizes those who sought clemency from colonial rulers. The Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor former PM Manmohan Singh instead.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office has confirmed that Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Veer Savarkar College. Delhi University's Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh expressed pride in the initiative, which includes development of campuses in East and West Delhi.
