In a tragic incident in Odisha's Kandhamal district, two women have died and six others have fallen seriously ill following the consumption of mango kernel gruel. This simple dish, made by boiling oats in milk or water, was reportedly consumed in Mandipanka village, Daringbadi block.
One woman succumbed to her illness at Mohana Community Health Centre on Thursday night, while another passed away on Friday morning at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, according to local authorities. Both women had reportedly shown symptoms after consuming the gruel.
Dr. Subrat Das, a medical officer at a local health facility, stated that the six other affected individuals have been hospitalized in critical condition. Initial suspicions point to food poisoning, but a thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the illness.
