The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for apologies from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge following Kharge's suggestion that state units of the party should make only financially viable promises. This statement is perceived as an admission of the financial difficulties associated with some Congress promises in various states.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, a leader of the BJP, sarcastically questioned whether Kharge was imparting wisdom to Gandhi, highlighting Gandhi's proclamations of financially unrestrained benefits. Prasad pointed to Congress-led states like Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh, which are reportedly struggling to fulfill their electoral assurances.
Prasad further criticized Congress for historical unreliability in electoral promises, contrasting it with BJP's adherence to fiscal prudence in fulfilling its commitments, including welfare initiatives for farmers and women. He urged Kharge and Gandhi to apologize, paralleling the Congress's approach with that of the Aam Aadmi Party's leader, Arvind Kejriwal.
