The National Health Commission (NHC) of China has released its inaugural guidelines aimed at standardizing the diagnosis and treatment of obesity, a growing concern in the nation with over half the adult population affected.

Overweight or obesity-related conditions are projected to afflict 65.3% of adults by 2030. These guidelines are a response to the public health crisis caused by shifting lifestyle dynamics as economic modernization leads to more sedentary occupations and unhealthy dietary patterns.

Efforts include public awareness campaigns and health guidelines across schools to promote balanced diets and active lifestyles, marking a significant step towards addressing the issue once underlined by widespread under-nourishment.
