The Allahabad High Court has issued a directive to the principal secretary of Uttar Pradesh's food and civil supplies department, demanding an affidavit detailing the measures taken to curb the sale of sub-standard namkeens.
The court has expanded the scope of its investigation beyond a single district, acknowledging the nationwide implications on public health. A bench of Justices V K Birla and Arun Kumar Singh is overseeing the suo moto plea.
In response, the court has included the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution as respondents and has scheduled the next hearing for September 20, 2024. Additionally, intervention inputs from High Court lawyer Ashutosh Kumar Tiwari were accepted as valuable resources for the case.
