An allegedly inebriated patient's attendant attempted to enter the room of a 25-year-old junior female doctor and misbehaved with her at Indore's Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH). The incident has prompted hospital management to initiate an investigation, officials reported on Monday.

The episode occurred during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday at MYH, one of Madhya Pradesh's largest government-run hospitals. Resident medicos, infuriated by the incident, flagged it to the authorities, leading to the probe.

The Junior Doctor Association (JDA) has voiced concerns about the hospital's security arrangements. They emphasize that MYH must heed lessons from a recent tragedy at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, where a junior doctor was raped and murdered. In response, MYH, associated with Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC), has formed a four-member committee to investigate, as confirmed by College Dean Dr. Sanjay Dixit.

In a video released by JDA, a private security agency watchman is seen sleeping on duty. Dr. Akash Verma, vice-president of JDA's Indore unit, claims the footage is from the same night as the incident, accusing the intoxicated attendant of using abusive language and attempting to enter the doctor's room. Verma demands an FIR against the attendant and tighter security at MYH.

Indore Divisional Commissioner Dipak Singh, who heads the state-appointed security committee, confirmed that measures are underway to enhance security. Plans include limiting attendant numbers, increasing lighting and CCTV installations, deploying women security staff, and implementing regular police patrols.
