China has urged the European Union to remain 'objective and fair' and to exercise caution with its words and actions regarding matters in the South China Sea, subsequent to the bloc's comments on a recent incident over the weekend.

China expressed 'strong dissatisfaction' with the European Union's 'accusations' concerning the issue, according to a statement from the Chinese mission to the EU.

'The European Union is not a party to the South China Sea issue and has no right to point fingers,' the Chinese statement read. The EU, in a Sunday statement, condemned what it called dangerous actions by China Coast Guard vessels against lawful Philippine maritime operations in the South China Sea.
