Engine Failure Incident Grounds Cathay Pacific's A350 Fleet
Cathay Pacific Airways has inspected its Airbus A350 fleet following the in-flight failure of a Rolls-Royce engine component on flight CX383 from Hong Kong to Zurich. A brief engine fire prompted the plane to return to Hong Kong safely. The failure has led to flight cancellations and further inspections.
In a recent development, Cathay Pacific Airways announced on Tuesday that it has inspected its entire Airbus A350 fleet following an in-flight engine component failure. The affected component, crafted by British manufacturer Rolls-Royce, malfunctioned on flight CX383 from Hong Kong to Zurich.
The incident occurred minutes after takeoff, as a fuel system leak caused a brief engine fire. The flight crew quickly extinguished the fire, and the plane safely returned to Hong Kong after dumping fuel over the sea.
As a precautionary measure, Cathay Pacific has identified 15 aircraft with engine components needing replacement. This has resulted in the cancellation of at least 34 round-trip flights. The airline continues to work closely with Rolls-Royce and authorities to investigate the cause of the failure.
