Delhi Hospitals Prepare Isolation Wards Amid Rising Mpox Concerns

Three Delhi hospitals have been instructed to establish isolation rooms for potential and confirmed Mpox cases. Despite no current detections, the WHO has declared Mpox a Public Health Emergency. The Delhi government remains vigilant, emphasizing preparedness and alertness as global cases rise.

In a proactive measure, the Delhi government has instructed three of its hospitals to establish isolation rooms for the management of suspected and confirmed Mpox cases, officials announced on Tuesday. Despite no detections in the city, preparations are underway amid rising global concerns.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has labeled Mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), given its prevalence and spread across various regions, particularly in Africa.

Key Delhi hospitals – LNJP, GTB, and Baba Saheb Ambedkar – have been directed to set up dedicated isolation rooms. LNJP will serve as the nodal facility with 20 rooms, including 10 for confirmed cases, while the other two hospitals will have 10 rooms each for suspected and confirmed cases.
