Female junior doctors in Telangana, protesting against the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata, met with state Women's Commission Chairperson Nerella Sharada on Sunday. They urged her to take steps, including the installation of CCTV cameras in hospitals, to enhance security for women medical personnel.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, a representative of the women doctors said that CCTV cameras should be established in government hospitals and medical colleges and that a team should monitor the CCTV footage.

The junior doctors also requested the development of a mobile app for working women, which would have the facility to alert police and other officials in case of danger.

They additionally alleged that the special protection force (SPF), set up by the state government in 2019, has remained mostly on paper and should be deployed effectively with more security personnel.

''Upon a call from Telangana State Commission for Women, the female junior doctors met the Chairperson, Smt Nerella Sharada garu. We wholeheartedly thank her for listening to our grievances,'' the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) said on X. Protests have continued for several days.
