The Union Health Ministry has announced the formation of a committee aimed at ensuring the safety of healthcare professionals. Representatives from all stakeholders, including state governments, will be invited to share their suggestions with the committee.

The ministry made this decision in response to the national protests by doctors following the rape and killing of a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The agitating doctors were urged to return to work, considering the rising dengue and malaria cases.

During a recent meeting with the Union Health Minister, the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA), and other resident doctors' associations stressed the need for better safety measures. The ministry has assured that it is sensitive to these demands and will strive to enhance the security of healthcare workers. Notably, 26 states have already enacted laws for the protection of healthcare workers.
