The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has mandated a thorough investigation into an alarming incident where a patient was trapped in a lift at the Government Medical College Hospital for 42 hours. The directive came from the commission's acting chairperson, K Baijunath, who asked for a detailed report within 15 days, highlighting the negligence involved.
Ravindran Nair, 59, a resident of Ulloor, was stuck in the hospital's OP Block elevator from Saturday until he was rescued on Monday morning. The incident triggered widespread public outrage.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George visited Nair and assured him of strict actions against those responsible. A preliminary investigation led to the suspension of three staff members, and a more comprehensive probe is underway.
