In a striking development, Kerala Assembly's Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan has pressed for a thorough investigation into the alarming claims regarding the Malayalam film industry as outlined in the Justice Hema Committee Report.

According to the report, derived from testimonies of 51 industry professionals, there are disturbing revelations about the extent of exploitation faced by women in the industry, including the prevalence of casting couches and substandard working conditions.

Speaking to ANI, Satheesan criticized the government's inaction despite being aware of these offenses, and accused Kerala Culture Minister Saji Cherian of attempting to dodge an investigation. He demanded Minister Cherian's immediate resignation due to his efforts to alter the report to protect culprits. The 235-page report was made public last week in a redacted form, confirming the rumoured prevalence of casting couches and revealing severe cases of harassment and exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.
