In anticipation of a bustling summer travel season, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced a 5.5% uptick in weekly flights by Indian carriers. Between March 30 and October 25, 2025, these carriers plan to operate a staggering 25,610 flights weekly across 129 airports.
The finalized schedule emerged post the February slot conference, with an emphasis on increased air traffic. Seven new airports, including Ambikapur and Solapur, have been proposed for flight operations, although services at Azamgarh and Rupsi have been suspended in the summer schedule for 2025.
IndiGo retains its lead with the highest number of weekly domestic flights at 14,158, followed by Air India and Air India Express. Conversely, SpiceJet experiences a 25% reduction in its slots, with further decline seen in regional players like Alliance Air. Fly 91, however, has achieved an impressive 515% growth in permitted departures.
